FC United member Janet Machen’s epic 19-day walk of the Pennine Way to raise money for FC United’s Development Fund has now raised more than £2,500 which is more than the target she set herself when she started.
Janet’s trek saw her wend her way across the Pennines through rain, sun, hail and wind and saw her end the walk at her final destination of Kirk Yetholm in Scotland.
Her epic adventure started on 6 June at Edale, Derbyshire, and since then she followed the Pennines all the way towards her end point in the Scottish Borders. In total she walked for 19 days, 268 miles and made 37,215 feet of ascent. Her journey was even more epic by the fact that Janet had a knee operation late last year and her spirit of optimism and determination is an inspiration to us all.
At the conclusion of her walk, Janet said: “I’m really tired but really pleased that I completed the walk. I love walking in the Pennines and as this year is the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Pennine Way, walking it to raise as much money as possible for FC United seemed like a great thing to do. It’s been a challenge and difficult in parts but I’m really grateful to all those who have supported me on the walk and by donating to the FC United Development Fund.???
You can still show your support for Janet’s amazing efforts by donating to her fundraising page. Every penny raised will be donated to our club.
